Kokořín region is a picturesque natural area of rocks, beautiful lakes and villages with folk architecture. It is renowned for its romantic gorges and unique sandstone towers, gates, windows and other formations that do not exist in such a form and size anywhere else in the Czech Republic.
Kokořín Castle dominates all this and is located on a sandstone projection above Kokořín Mine, 14 km northeast of Mělník.
Kokořín Valley is 14 km long and a nature reserve with plenty of natural attractions. The best known of these are Pokličky (Lids), the ‘mushroom-shaped’ rock pillars, about two kilometres from Kokořín Castle. Cinibulkova Trail leads through the magnificent places of Kokořín Mine from Romanov to Pokličky.
